Here’s Stephanie with her latest Photoshop brushes, Beach Themed Brushes.

Obsidian Dawn Photoshop Brushes Compilation CDOkay, this set is based off a request I got… quite a while ago. I get some requests that I just don’t know quite what to do with, at first. This was one of those. I started out collecting photographs to make it an image-based set. But since then, I’ve decided I really don’t LIKE image-based sets. And most people don’t really use them. Why would you use a Photoshop brush for something that you could get a stock photo of, and add it already in color?

I can think of very few exceptions that would make you do this. So, while I will still be doing image-based sets… they’re mostly going to be the kinds of things that you would add to something. Not the “thing” itself. (Like, the Distressed brushes – those are great! And image based. But the Sports brushes, which are all kinds of sports equipment and balls… not-so-great. Not many more of those kinds of things coming.)

Anyway, my point is that I wanted to still do the whole beach-themed thing, and wanted to try something new. So, I’ve started a new section for sketches brushes . These will be, well, just what they sound like! Actual, hand-drawn sketches of various things. I AM an artist, I figured I may as well start using it!

So, to whoever requested the beach themed brushes (I believe a lighthouse and a message in a bottle were specifically named), my apologies for this taking so long! But here you go!

This set includes: a beach ball, a pail (bucket), an umbrella, bubbles, a conch and various other shells, a dolphin, a heron, a lighthouse, a lounge chair, a couple messages in a bottle, a palm tree, a pelican, a sand castle, a sand dollar, a sea turtle, 2 ships (one sailboat, one galleon), a starfish, a stylized sun, sunglasses, and waves. They’re all high resolution, with the average brush size being about 1900 pixels. Download the beach themed brushes.

Photoshop Brush Tip
I’ve shown you in various other brushes tips how to get brushes to do things like scatter, change their angle, size, and color, etc. So, what happens if you want to SAVE a brush like that, once you’ve created it? Well, first off, make sure that you have the set open that you want to save the brush to. Because it will be added to whichever set you have currently open.

Once you have the brush settings how you’d like them, click on your Brushes tab (or hit F5). Up in the VERY upper right hand corner, there should be a small arrow (facing right). Click on that arrow. (Alternately, you can click on the small arrow next to your currently selected brush’s thumbnail to open the brush preset picker, and then choose that small arrow on the top right.)

You should see a list of all your current brush sets, etc. Near the very beginning, there should be a “New Brush Preset..” option. That’s the one you want! Choose that, name your brush, and it will be added to your current set. How is this different from choosing Edit > Define Brush Preset from the top menu? Well, if you do it that way, all it will save is the brush shape, based on what is on your canvas. “New Brush Preset..” will save the brush that you’re currently using, including all the extra options you’ve added. Hope this helps!

Three steps to search engine optimization or SEO

Stephanie Watson

Search Engine Optimization often called “SEO” is the effective use of good content, linking and keywords to assist with garnering higher ranking on popular search engines such as Google for your website. Many web designers do not know anything about SEO, or they offer SEO separately from their Web Design Services.

The thing that might confuse a person about SEO is the fact that an ugly website can get better search engine traffic than a pretty site. Another thing to remember is that SEO requires continuous study. Popular search engines such as Google often change their criteria or algorithms which can drastically alter your SEO strategy.

There are several things you can do to implement SEO on your own web site or blog.

1. Start with good, relevant content

Good relevant content will go a long way in garnering organic search engine traffic. Good content is defined as clear, well written, properly titled and targeted articles that people want to read. Stick to content that is very niche oriented and do not spread your net too wide.

Make sure you use appropriate tags within the code of your site. The very best way to do this is by using WordPress(tm) to build your site or blog and use the many SEO plug ins that you can add to WordPress(tm). Within your content always tell your readers what your site is for and don’t make them guess about what it is you want them to do.

2. Add relevant and proper linking

This should really be before the content but start with a great domain name. The best domain name would also be a search term. There is some disagreement about whether to add dashes or not, but right now most experts are saying not to use dashes.

Get others to link to you. One way links are the best because it helps up your search engine ranking. One way to do this goes back to having good content. If you write a good article, and share it with others, they will in turn share it with others, who will link to you.

Link to articles within your own site that are relevant to new articles. Provide only relevant links that go outside your site if any at all. Ideally all links on your site will go to your own valuable content and information. If links go outside your site, they are due to networking, partnering, or affiliate income.
Submit your site to search engines and please, follow the rules provided by the site you are submitting to.

3. Use Keywords

Keywords in meta tags these days doesn’t do much good, however, using appropriate search terms with in the content of your site works wonderfully. You can use keywords in your meta tags if you want to, just make sure they match the keywords within your content pages. If you make your links on your site consist of common keywords that is a great way also. Always use keywords in each page title.
Finally you have to get the keywords right. You cannot just guess at proper keywords for your site. Use specific words and phrases that someone might use to search for your web site on Google. There are tools to help you determine good keywords as well. You can use Google’s Webmaster Tools to help you with this.

If you implement just these three items your search engine ranking will go up. But no matter what you do remember that first of all your website is for human consumption. This means that your site should be pleasing to the eye, easy to access, be simple to navigate and offer relevant, readable content for the human eyes that you want to view it.

The Obsidian 800D Case

Corsair has been hard at work developing a new chassis from the ground up that was aimed at computer enthusiasts from the second they started drawing up plans for the perfect computer case. The first images of the much anticipated Corsair Obsidian Series 800D chassis appeared just before CeBit 2009 and the case was promised to be hitting store shelves in June or July of 2009. Things are taking a little longer than expected as a couple of design changes that they made after listening to consumer feedback from all the CeBit coverage forced Corsair to ‘re-tool’ the factory assembly line. The Obsidian Series 800D might be Corsair’s first step up to the plate for bringing a case to market, but they have taken great strides to make it a success.

Corsair Obsidian 800D ATX PC Case

The Corsair Obsidian 800D might be a massive full ATX tower chassis, but it was designed to be a well functioning chassis. Corsair wanted the case to be that large so multi-GPU video card setups could be used as well as allowing custom water cooling kits to be installed. Corsair went into great depth to explain the cooling zones and directed airflow they used in this case, so rather than trying to explain it to you, here is what Corsair has to say about the cooling zones shown in the image above.

* Cooling Zone 1 draws in cold air from underneath the chassis and exhausts it out of the top and rear. Permanently attached aluminum standoffs lift the chassis off the surface to ensure that the cold air intake is not obstructed, while a washable air-filter ensures that dust is prevented from entering the main compartment. This Cooling Zone provides cold air to the motherboard, video card(s) and CPU. The intake and exhaust fans are 140mm units that provide high airflow at a low RPM, are mounted using rubber grommets to dampen vibrations, ensuring a very quiet system. They use standard 3-pin fan connectors and so are compatible with motherboard BIOS fan-control systems.
* Cooling Zone 2 is designed to cool the main storage drives. Although solid-state drives are very cool, several mechanical hard drives can produce plenty of heat. In conventional PC chassis this heat is exhausted into the main motherboard compartment, increasing the ambient temperature for the video cards, CPU and chipset. With the 800D the hot-swap SATA bays are cooled by a separate 140mm fan, and the heat is exhausted via a chamber behind the motherboard tray. The rubber cable mounting grommets in the motherboard tray prevent this heat from entering the main comportment. The lower main storage bay has a 120mm fan mount (the fan is not included), the airflow for which is is also directed behind the lower chamber. A rubber vibration-dampening ring and mounting screws for this fan are included in the accessory kit, should the lower drive bays be utilized. Airflow from Cooling Zone 2 exhausts out the rear, via a chamber routed behind the motherboard tray.
* Cooling Zone 3 allows the PSU to draw in ambient air from beneath the chassis and exhaust it out the rear, without this heat affecting the rest of the PC. Keeping the PSU cool can increase efficiency and longevity. This is especially important for the high-wattage PSUs common in high-end PCs. PSUs that use rear-intake fans instead of bottom-intake fans will still benefit from the cool air in the lower chamber.

Corsair Obsidian 800D ATX PC Case

To make sure that the cooling zones work, the Corsair Obsidian 800D comes with the ability to have eight case fans installed! (The image above shows nine, but the power supply shouldn’t count.) The case comes with only three 140mm fans when purchased, though, and the rest are up to the consumer to purchase if they want to improve cooling or customize the chassis for their specific application. Now that we know how the airflow works in the Obsidian Series 800D chassis let’s take a closer look at the case itself.

obsidian vision has a great effect on the music

From humble beginnings, in March 2002, Rob Adams meets Rob Gallant and decide to put together a new musical project. Gallant was a close friend of another guitarist named Mike Davidson, formerly of “Torn”. He suggested a meeting between them all and see if everyone was on the same page musically. Adams gives Mike a call and they seem to share a similar outlook on being in bands and work-ethic. A couple of days later, on May 11th, 2002 (the night of the Fredericton “Martyr” show), a group of folks got together over at Mike’s place for a few drinks and the trio hit it off, talking about jamming and what musical background everyone came from. The decision is made to get together and see where fate would take them.

As luck would have it, everything “clicked”. Even though Mike and Rob Adams came from very different approaches to guitar playing, they were able to complement each other styles … probably because of these reasons. Gallant could sense it as well and this core of a line-up would last while they started choosing songs of their favourite styles to learn and rehearse.

The summer is spent auditioning various bassists and vocalists; some new members lasting for a few weeks and others, much less time. Finding it somewhat frustrating in finding others with the dedication, time, and/or ability to devote to the band, the trio persevere and continue adding songs to their repertoire.

November 2002 – Rob (Adams a.k.a. Satan) runs into an old acquiantance, Paul Vidal, and learns that Paul is working on bass these days … what a coincidence AND a stroke of luck too. After quickly exchanging phone numbers, it’s decided that Paul should come out to jam with the others sometime and does just that. Despite never having been in a band, or possibly BECAUSE of that, Paul works his ass off learning material from the existing setlist. After a few weeks of consecutively strong work-ethic and steadily improving ability, the guys make the offer, “Do you want the gig mate?” To our relief, he said “Of course”, and ever since, the once-shy and highly nervous newbie has turned into a conceited asshole just like the rest of us … he’s fitting right in.

Steve McDonald is a pric…, uh, a longtime friend of most of the guys in the band and is also a former “Awakened” alumnus. In January/February of 2003, having returned from a stint in Ottawa, Steve tries out with the other four guys for the vacant lead vocalist spot. Bobbeh and Rob had been handling the vocal duties during this time but have always thought that if they could find someone capable of the wide range of vocal styles that they were looking for, they would gladly step back from the microphone. Steve has been working hard and things are now progressing extremely well as a 5-piece. The line-up may FINALLY be ready!!!

February 2003 – The group decides upon the name “Obsidian Reign” (OR). The band is “officially” born.

March 2003 – Work now begins on writing original material and the website you see before you is launched.

April 18th, 2003 (Good Friday) – The band’s first show together is a memorable one indeed. The “War Against Christ” show (as it was promoted and later given tons of free publicity from the conservative folks of the local area) is a huge success. With tons of friends in attendance, the guys draw the majority of the packed house (160 + people) at the Elk’s Club in Fredericton, NB. From their opening chords to the thunderous encore, the band rips through an amazing set and the crowd knows that they’ve just witnessed something special. Obsidian Reign has arrived.

Over the next three months, OR plays 6 shows in total to overwhelming response, sharing the stage with many great bands. The website continues to grow and Obsidian Reign is definitely making a name for themselves. Steve still hasn’t been “officially” hired yet … a source of constant amusement for the others. We think it makes him try harder hehehe.

July 18th, 2003 sees the return of OR to the Elk’s Club and plays alone for 2 and 1/2 hours (over 30 songs) to a great audience. They are now comfortable headlining and pulling the solo billing using a greater use of theatrics, stageshow, and non-stop adrenaline than ever. Unfortunately, there are irreconcilable tensions within the band and less than two weeks later, Gallant is “let go”. Again the search is on for a new member who will share the others’ shared vision and work ethic.

By the time this biography reaches this point, it has been nearly three months and Obsidian Reign are ready to hit the stage once again. As drummer auditions continue, we will perform on November 7th with Dan Rogers filling in as we open up for local favourites, Slyde. This promises to be a huge show and an opportunity that we just couldn’t allow to pass us by. Get ready for the second coming.

The Nov. 7th Chestnut show is simply amazing. Probably the best performance of OR’s musical life thus far and the audience could sense that something magical was happening on this night. As it turned out, almost exactly a month later, Dan Rogers is officially hired as the new drummer for Obsidian Reign. The vibe from the Chestnut show was just too good and the decision was simply obvious. Dan’s a phenomenal talent in his own right and with his shared vision and outlook for this band, we’re poised to unleash ourselves upon the local music scene once again. With plans for future shows and demo recording just around the corner, Obsidian Reign is ready to work our asses off and make a mark. We’ve only just begun … 2003 was a great beginning … 2004 is ours.

And now, in hindsight, 2004 was INDEED ours. The band played 18 shows throughout the region in 2004 and on January 31st, Obsidian Reign met with talented local producer Ethan Young-Lai to begin recording sessions for what would be the first Obsidian Reign demo. After a few months of work and with some great CD layout from our longtime graphics collaborator, Manny Peters, the demo was released on June 16th. “Conviction” had hit the scene. With 500 copies created, we hoped that enough people would be interested in buying our own material to be able to successfully promote such a large run and at this time (early 2005), we are almost entirely sold out of copies in about 9 months! That’s pretty amazing for any band and especially a metal band with no radio airplay. We sold this CD strictly through a few Fredericton music stores, online interest, and primarily … at SHOWS! The fanbase has been steadily building and our following keep propelling this band forward. We have no doubt that by the time we hit the studio again in summer/autumn, that “Conviction” will be in people’s music collections and the next chapter of Obsidian Reign will be ready to be recorded.

We’ve played a number of fantastic shows so far and it’s been great to convert fans from all over the area. The biggest show we’ve played was probably the 2004 Bathurst Bike Rodeo weekend festival. Performing to over 1700 people and one of the biggest and wildest mosh pits we’ve ever seen is definitely a highlight. And we’ve already been asked back and are confirmed to be on the bill with a predicted crowd of over 3000 people this year with motorcycle clubs from all over Canada and the US being represented. We’ve shared the stage with alot of talented other bands and made alot of friends.

That brings us to 2005 and in January, we were honoured to have been chosen by the AUDIENCE as the winners of the “New Hope Battle of the Bands”. It was completely unexpected as we went into the event and we even joked that IF we won, we’d have to finally think about officially hiring Steve as our vocalist after this “audition” period. And since we won, we’ve finally decided that Steve has proved himself enough to go up to “MAYBE” status hahaha.

And with this victory to kick off 2005, things are looking brighter still for Obsidian Reign. We’re planning on playing more and more shows, record the next CD, and keep pushing the boundaries of metal throughout the region. Love us or hate us, you can’t ignore us. See you onstage!

Fast forward to December 2005 and another year has passed. Again as we’d hoped, we continue to grow and become even more successful in this musical path of ours. “Onward and upward” as we like to say.

We’re definitely consistent with our performance numbers as it seems that we’ve played 18 more shows this year, the same as 2004. We’ve been fortunate to share the stage with many bands from all across the country and beyond including some major names in the metal scene including Augury, Quo Vadis, Necronomicon, and Behemoth. We made another appearance at the Bathurst Bike Rodeo in August and even more exciting, October saw us traveling to Montreal to headline our first show out of the province!

We were featured on a national compilation CD in December released by The Fire Union (an organization of Canadian metal musicians and industry members) and we’re very proud to be a part of it. We submitted “Pathogenesis” from our “Conviction” demo for inclusion. The disc contains tracks by various independent metal artists as well as larger, more recognized acts including the mighty Augury, Wetwork, and Beneath The Massacre; that’s some good company to be keeping.

And as 2005 comes to a close, we are in the midst of preproduction to begin recording our next CD; this time it will be a full-length. We’re shooting for 8 songs at the moment and the early scratch tracks are turning out very well with the sound quality already being even better than on “Conviction”. We’ve invested over $1000 into our own recording equipment with new mics, mixer, speakers, etc. and with our own Dan pushing the buttons, we’re just taking our time and getting the best sounds and performances that we can. Aiming for a spring release, we’ll see how that works out in the coming months. We’re very excited for the future. So once again, to all of our supporters, thanks for the dedication to our brand of metal and to all the naysayers, it’s been another year and we’re better than ever … what have YOU done? Exactly.

2006 has now come and gone and it was a busy year for Obsidian Reign in cool, new ways. The proper recording began towards the end of March and continued throughout the summer until the end of August. It was much more work than we ever expected but in the end, it was truly fulfilling. Dan and Rob took on co-producer duties and Dan was the main man behind the recording, engineering, and mixing of the project. In the end, 10 songs were laid down and on October 10th, 2006, “Persevere” was released to the public. A huge CD release party was performed on Nov. 11th at Bugaboo Creek Pub in Fredericton. 2 and 1/2 hours of pure NON-STOP metal with no set break. It had been 9 months since we’d played a show and we were hungry to put on a spectacle like nobody had ever seen from us, or any other local band, before. With a new 8-foot by 8-foot backdrop of the “Persevere” album cover behind us and a major light show, our return was definitely triumphant. With over 200 audience members that night, it was one of the biggest shows ever in this club and we are proud to say that the songs are winning over our fans, old and new. Reviews have been outstanding thus far and the quality of the album has surpassed everyone’s expections, even our own.

So as 2007 begins, it’s time for Obsidian Reign to take our music to the people. We’re planning on playing as many shows as possible and hit parts of the country we’ve never touched yet like Nova Scotia and PEI. And this spring/summer, you’ll see us hitting the road to play even further away than we ever have previously. We’re currently planning a mini-tour heading as far west as Toronto with a stop in Quebec City, Ottawa, and then Montreal once again. And who knows where else we might end up through the course of the year. We’re not ones to rest on our laurels and the goal is to take Obsidian Reign to greater heights of success that we haven’t yet experienced. Stay with us loyal friends and let’s see what happens.

If you are running a small business, then you are probably concerned about how ecomm is changing how people do business these days.
Unlike before when you didnt need to have your own computer and you didnt have to worry about web hosting, these days, there is an unspoken rule that if you want to prosper in your business, you need to have web presence.
Having your own website would help you generate and facilitate sales.

If you are looking for a small business hosting service, you have several options to choose from.
You really dont have to worry about the cost because there are many affordable webhosting providers offering their service.

Different Categories of Small Business Webhosting Services

Hosting website services for small businesses can be divided into four categories — corporate co-location, managed web hosting, shared and in-house.
Among these four, it is advisable for you to start with managed dedicated hosting.
What does this mean? Basically, when you use a dedicated hosting website service, it means that you would rent your dedicated server from a service provider.
Of course, you may customize your server and place remote server access.
However, the service provider would be responsible for providing the hardware and software needed to operate the server.
They would also be responsible for installing and maintaining the same.
What does this mean to you then? This translates into cost savings for you and your business.

When you opt for managed dedicated hosting, you will be able to avoid the expense associated with setting up and maintaining a website.
The cost of the bandwidth is oftentimes distributed to all the providers clients, so all of these clients save a lot of money.
You would also be able to enjoy the quirks offered by the managed dedicated hosting providers.
You could take advantage of the service packages as well.

A corporate co-located webhosting, on the other hand, allows you to store your own hardware and Internet connection into a particular server space that your provider will allocated for you.
This allows you to save a few dollars here and there, but this does not offer the same savings that managed dedicated hosting service does.

Choosing Your Managed Dedicated Hosting Server

Generally if you want a secure, reliable but completely affordable way of putting up your website, website hosting is the perfect choice.
However, you should make sure that you have a reliable webhosting provider.
They should be able to ensure that they can provide search engine visibility for your website, so check for a dedicated webhosting server that is continuously up and running.
This will guarantee that your website will be up all the time and people will be able to have access to you and your service at all times.

These days, business owners need to have their own website if they want to stay ahead of their competitors.
However, you need to make sure that would still be able to save money from setting up and maintaining a website and you can only do this if you use a managed dedicated hosting service.

A Virtual Private Server can be treated as a small dedicated server unit which have its own set of processes and own set of system resources to run your official site or ecommerce site or a web portal in its virtually dedicated web environment. Virtual private servers are best choice for medium business site owners having low budget spending limits and in need of something special like dedicated resources to ensure smoother running of their websites.

Virtual Private Servers are also called as VDS or Virtual Dedicated Server or Master Reseller Servers. Virtual private servers are called as VDS because they works like independent server itself with own dedicated and burstable system resources and on the other hand they are also called as Master Reseller Servers as in VPS ac you can also make sub reseller for web hosting under your small vps ac which is impossible with normal reseller hosting ac.

VPS comes for Linux and Windows both environments in Linux they comes with SSH or Root Access and on windows they come with RDP or Remote Desktop Access. On Linux you have flexibility of the world famous web hosting control panel on VPS called as WHM / cPanel and on other hand in Widows VPS you have choice of Helm and Plesk Control Panels. WHM with cPanel is best one control panel enriched with tons of features if you are looking for Linux VPS and in windows Plesk works much better for you as a best choice.

Now we talk about little bit on concern of the VPS technical specifications normally VPS ac comes with 5GB to 100GB sort of storage capacity along with 400-1000 GB bandwidth per month & 128 to 1gb RAM capacity so you can easily go to google.com and can find out the vps service provider and then can compare their prices and features to get the best vps offer for you as every customer or business person is having own personal technical requirements thus nobody can recommend any standard available offer as a best one as its all depends on what you need thus and that varies person to person thus you can either consult to webmaster for the same that which sort of technical things they are in need of to make your website more better.

VPS are better for you in two cases: 1. Your current shared web hosting provider is warning you for system overloads as normally in shared hosting ac web hosting provider don’t allow more than allowed system resources to be eat by your web hosting ac. 2. If you are looking for dedicated server sort of better way to host your website but your budget is smaller than 200-300 USDs a month sort of dedicated servers.

So in this manner VPS are best for you in above both cases as you get better assurance of your web hosting service quality due to dedicated system resources and you spend limited budget compare to high charges of dedicated web hosting servers.

obsidian web development begins with search engine optimization…paid vs. organic ???

My column, “Organic Versus Paid Search,” sparked some debate. Some argued that you should never have to choose between these two activities — that both should always be employed. Yet others sided with my view — the most appropriate and cost efficient investment really depends on your circumstances.

To be clear: I never said don’t do both. If budget restrictions require a strategic focus of dollars, I contend that you then might have to weigh your options between the two.

This got me thinking about a very related and highly debated topic: Should you be doing both? Do organic search (SEO) and paid search (PPC) activities complement or cannibalize each other?

Coincidentally, my team attended a Webinar the other day called, “Tactical Methods to Coordinate your SEO and PPC Campaigns“. It basically talked about how employing SEO and PPC in tandem could potentially cannibalize or bring synergies to your online campaign.

Now, this isn’t the first time this topic has been tackled. I touched on it in the column, “Coordinating Organic, Paid Search Efforts.” However, the Webinar made me see this issue in a slightly different light — that SEO and PPC together can often be harmonious, but there can also be some negatives that come out of employing both at the same time. Now as a search enthusiast, this idea leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I would have to agree — there are some dangers. Cannibalization is number one.

Cannibalize: It’s a Don’t

Cannibalization can occur when your SEO and PPC activities compete against each other and/or one (usually paid search) is unnecessary or even wasteful due to the success of the other.

It can take place in any of the following scenarios:

  • You Already Have a High Organic RankingIf you have a high organic ranking for your key search terms, you may not want to bid on those terms in paid search, as you may end up diverting potentially “free” (organic) traffic to get users to click on your sponsored search ads (that you pay for).

Keep in mind, it’s highly unlikely for a site to obtain a strong organic ranking on every keyword phrase relevant to its audience. So paid search would likely still be important to support your organic efforts and gain presence on the more elusive keywords.

  • Your Company and Web Site Has Strong Brand AwarenessIf your brand is well known, your audience will probably easily find your Web site without the help of paid search. Your Web site is likely already coming up at the top in the organic listings due to high link value, and many people will go directly to your Web site. In these cases, it may not make sense to “pay” for your brand name or variations of it through paid search.

That said, just because your brand awareness is high, doesn’t mean everyone will automatically search for your brand. They might think first of the type of product or service they need and search for that instead (e.g. “iPod”) versus your brand or company name (e.g. Apple).

  • Your Organic Listing and PPC Ads Are SimilarIf your organic listings are identical or similar to your paid search listings, there may not be any added value in undertaking paid search. A key advantage to paid search is that you can control the content of your listing and the landing page you are pointing to. In the case that your organic listings are serving up the right message and page to your users, this advantage is no longer required.

When these three situations occur, you may want to think twice about employing paid search, or evaluate exactly how you will use it.

However, before giving up on paid search too quickly, keep in mind that there are significant opportunities to create synergy with your paid search and organic search activities.

Synergize: It’s a Do!

A brand could gain positive synergy from having both organic and paid search in the following scenarios:

  • Brand defense. If your brand does not have a high organic position, you will want to be sure that you own the sponsored search SOV whenever your brand name is searched for, and potentially when your key competitor names are entered.
  • Enhance your presence. Because you don’t have much control over the description on your organic listing, having PPC can ensure that the message you want your audience to see is being delivered.
  • Ensure landing page control. When your organic listings are driving to obscure or less than desirable pages, paid search enables you to exert control over which page on your site you drive your audience into based on the keyword.
  • Combat negative PR. If your company or industry is subject to negative press, you want to make sure your message is seen first. If you don’t have a high organic ranking, paid search can be used to make sure your site is listed above the negative ones, ensuring your audience hears about the benefits of your products and services first.

There are many considerations when deciding whether to employ one or both paid search activities. Ultimately, if SEO and paid search activities are planned strategically, it will exponentially benefit your campaign.
